The Effect of Maternal Role Strain of Primiparous on Maternal Role Performance during the postpartum period

Abstract
The postpartum period is very important transition to motherhood ofr the primparous mother, that the mother experiences physiologic changes as her body regains its nonpregnant staus and psychologic changes as the adjusts to a new phase of
motherhood
with a separate but dependent infant.
This study aimed to know what variables effects maternal role performance, to develop and test the hypothesized model.
On the propositin that maternal role strain has negative effect on the maternal role performance, the relating variables inclued the anticipatory socialization, change in personal time, the physical support from husband, the emotional support
from
husband, the support from others, the baby's characters that is indentified through literature review.
The data was collected from 224 primiparous mothers at 406 weeks postpartum through mail.
Data analysis was done with SPSS/PC for descriptive sataistics and PC-LISREL 7.13 for path analysis.
The finding were as follows. Thre overall fit of the modified model with emperical data was revealed good(¥ö2(df=6)=2.50(p=.869), GFI=.997, AGFI=.983, RMSR=.016).
@ES The significant hypotheses were as follows :
@EN 1) The more emotional support from husband (T-Value=-3.794), the more support from others (T-Value=-2.077), the less change in personal time (T-Value=3.722) and the more thinking of her baby character was eary (T-Value=-3.710), the less
maternal
role strain.
2) The less maternal role strain(T-Value=-2.378), the more anticipatory socialization (T-Value=3.645) and the more emotional support from husband(T-Value=2.029), the better maternal role performance.
